            About Tudor & Cashel

Tudor and Cashel is a blend of new and old with settlements nestled within all corners of the Township. Stoney Settlement, Millbridge, Gilmour, Gunter and Glanmire are all rich with local history that form the welcoming atmosphere of the Township.

Around the 1880’s the area centered on the Old Hastings Road known as Millbridge was the centre of the township's activities. The community was first known as “Jordan” but attained the name Millbridge from a pioneer named Captain Ralph Norman when he constructed a trading post and later a mill. Stoney Settlement is steeped with historical landmarks like the old “Hogan’s Hotel” (now privately owned) and just a further bit down the road you will see the remains of a small church and pioneer cemetery.

As you move North on Hwy. 62 you may turn right on Weslemkoon Lake Rd. and enter the hamlet of Gilmour. Many of the local residents will willingly share their knowledge of the area and point out the milestones of some of the older buildings and sites. Although it took it’s name from the Gilmour Lumbering Company in Trenton, one cannot hear about Gilmour without mention of W.A. McMurray’s store.  Mr. McMurray was a jack-of-all trades and his business was similar to any modern convenience store. Products were stocked, furs traded, and logs bought and sold. The Gilmour School built in 1949-50 now serves as the community centre and municipal offices.

About 10 km’s down the road is Gunter, the youngest of the settlements. Gunter boasts of its superb fishing and hunting since it borders a large amount of crown land and refreshing lakes. It also possesses it share of historical knowledge with tales of the Gunter Cheese Factory, Lumber Mills and mining prospects.

Originally incorporated in 1869 the Township features natural charm while attaining modern convenience. Whether considering becoming a resident or just passing through, please enjoy our area and visit often.
